The first meeting of the Special Tax Exemption Study Committee took place at the Capitol in Atlanta on Tuesday. Senator John Albers (R- 56 Alpharetta), the chairman of the committee, was joined by other members Senators Hunter Hill (R- 6 Atlanta) – via the phone, Chuck Hufstetler (R- 52 Rome), William Ligon (R- 3 Brunswick), Jack Hill (R- 4 Reidsville) and Mike Dugan (R- 30 Carrollton).

Albers started the meeting reminding the committee of the rather immense task they are faced with, per the resolution that created it, to “examine the costs and benefits of state tax exemptions and specifically recommend any action or legislation which the committee deems necessary or appropriate. In particular, the committee shall recommend whether to maintain, modify, or repeal any existing exemptions from state sales taxes and state income taxes.”
