“Pack your patience, and stay where you are as long as possible.”
That was the message sent by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and a handful of other state officials this morning during a press conference to outline the state’s response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Irma’s landfall yesterday.
Power outages appear to be one of the major issues facing Georgians across the state today.
“The path of destruction is being felt across Florida and across all of Georgia,” said Paul Bowers, President and CEO of Georgia Power.
During peak outages, Bowers said nearly 1 million Georgia Power customers were without power throughout the state. That number has already been reduced by more than 20 percent. Nearly 400,000 Georgia Power customers in metro Atlanta are still without power.
“Every region in this state has been affected,” said Bowers. “Our goal is to get back to normal as soon as possible. Be patients and know we are working on restoring everyone’s power.”
