In perhaps a bit of inauspicious timing, as Atlanta was under the first tropical storm warning it ever received, it also played host to the worldwide association representing toll facility owners and operators and the businesses that partner with them, the IBTTA. It may sound limiting but the group discusses far more than just the booths that formerly occupied that space on GA-400. Topics up for discussion included smart cities, safety service patrols (think those HERO guys) and preventing hackers from infiltrating tolling systems.
On Monday afternoon, the discussion turned to Georgia and its transportation infrastructure. In what was originally slated to be a panel discussion of five, the group was down to three. Keith Parker, (in the short-term) still the CEO of MARTA, was at the agency deciding when to restart services and monitoring the ongoing storm situation. Roosevelt Council Jr., the General Manager of Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, was huddling with the mayor at the emergency operations center.
