As Thursday morning progressed, electric power outages across the state had been reduced to 160,000. Total outages at their peak due to Hurricane Irma hit approximately 997,000 users. The Georgia Power Co. says its restoration progress continues with nearly 8,000 personnel engaged in response effort.

From coastal Georgia to Metro Atlanta to the mountains of north Georgia, communities continue to clear fallen trees and debris and recover from flooding and heavy rains.

Consider the following Georgia Power damage estimates from Irma:

• More than 1,000 broken or damaged power poles.
• Approximately 5,000 spans of wire (or nearly 200 miles)
• More than 2,000 fallen trees
• Approximately 350 transformers damaged.

The utility expects to have service restored to 95 percent of all Georgia customers impacted by Irma by Sunday night.
