Today marks the fourth day of the 2018 legislative session, and already Governor Nathan Deal is working hard to push his agenda for his final year in office.
Yesterday the governor gave a preview to his ‘State of the State’ address at the Georgia Chamber’s annual ‘Eggs and Issues’ event. He emphasized the accomplishments and steps taken by his administration to strengthen the state’s economy over the past seven years and highlighted several issues that his staff wants to emphasize this year.
Expect to hear more on helping rural communities, cyber security, the Savannah harbor expansion project, and even that gorilla looming in the corner – the bid to secure Amazon’s HQ2 – at today’s speech at 11. We’ll have a full rundown coming this afternoon.
Also on tap today is the Governor’s budget recommendations for AFY2018 and FY2019, to be presented by senior aides Chris Riley and Teresa MacCartney at 2 at the Capitol. Passing a budget is of course the primary task of the legislature, and today’s press conference will lay out Deal’s vision for next year’s version.
