Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills has resigned from the Georgia Sheriffs Association, where he once served as its second vice-president and a past president. The departure comes after he shocked fellow sheriffs and state legislators with a shrill attack on Gov. Nathan Deal for criminal justice proposals, particularly a cash bond proposal for judges.
In an email to the Sheriffs Association, aimed at rallying support for his views, Sills charged that the Deal administration “coddled” criminals and had done more for perpetrators of crime than “Lucifer and his demons combined.”
