Governor Deal announced today that offices at the Capitol will be closed on Monday to accommodate the march planned by the King Center to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday will be the anniversary of his funeral procession in Atlanta. State employees that need to work that day have been advised to telecommute.
The march will begin at Ebenezer Baptist Church adjacent to the King Center and end in front of the Martin Luther King statue in front of the state Capitol on the corner of Capitol Avenue and MLK Jr. Drive. Deal will join members of the King family and other dignitaries in giving remarks at Liberty Plaza, across the street from the statue. The program will be a “Love for Humanity Tribute.”
