Governor Nathan Deal on Thursday announced a series of judicial appointments to fill a number of vacancies on the Georgia Court of Appeals, the solicitor general vacancy within the State Court of Thomas County, and the district attorney vacancy within the Douglas Judicial Circuit.

The Court of Appeals spots were left open when Tilman Eugene “Tripp” Self III was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, Lisa Branch to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and with the retirement of Gary B. Andrews.

Insiders were surprised that Fulton County Superior Court Judge Todd Markle was not named to one of the vacant positions on the Court of Appeals.  However it is no secret that he is a favorite of the governor, and there will likely be other plum positions to fill this year where he will be a contender.
