The related scandals continue to dribble out. Last week it was reported just how much was paid in overtime pay to police in Atlanta. Overtime for police sounds like a worthy and good idea. The trouble is when budgets are either poorly written or not adhered to at all and overtime balloons with little oversight. In fiscal year 2017, overtime expenses for the city of Atlanta exceeded $34 million. Most of that was from the police department.
