Gov. Nathan Deal announced Tuesday the state will make a major investment in bus rapid transit — spending $100 million in bonds to build a series of four new bus-only interchanges along a 16-mile stretch along SR 400 as part of the planned Express Lanes Project.
The announcement came following approval by the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) board. According to Deal, this investment by the state is the result of a partnership with Fulton County and MARTA to construct four bus-only interchanges. This project was made possible by the passage of HB 930 during the latest legislative session — the law creating the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (the ATL).
