In their efforts to pass legislation funding the federal government by October 1, U.S. Senators gave their okay Thursday to H.R. 6157, a comprehensive measure to fund critical areas such as defense, education, and the opioid epidemic.

Total education spending would increase by more than $500 million over fiscal 2018 in the bill, up to about $71.6 billion.
