On Monday, the Atlanta City Council held a public comment period ahead of a possible vote on the development plan for the Gulch. It quickly became apparent that a vote was not likely. And the public comments were less than supportive.
Opposition to the current plan is coming from a range of sources. Transit advocates who had long advocated for the possible multi-modal plan in the current dead zone of downtown Atlanta adjacent to (now) State Farm Arena are not pleased that part of the plan has been left behind. With the many hundreds of millions in public funding that have already gone into Mercedes-Benz Arena and the aforementioned State Farm Arena, the public appetite for big spending on corporate projects is pretty small.
