Cybersecurity has become a major issue in Georgia in recent years, both for private businesses and the state’s government. It even played a part in the midterms, where the potential vulnerability of the state’s election systems was called into question.
Luckily state officials and the Georgia Department of Economic Development have gotten out in front of the issue, carving out a spot near the very top of an industry that is exploding nationwide.
GDEcD Senior Project Manager Randall Toussaint talks with our friends at Metro Atlanta CEO about Georgia’s number 3 ranking nationwide for cybersecurity and the $4.7 billion worth of annual revenue generated by more than 115 firms throughout the state. With an expected demand of an additional 1.8 million working professionals in the field by 2022, the state is doing all it can to fill that void as an industry leader.
Buoyed by the Georgia Cyber Center in Augusta and the nearby US Army Cyber Command at Ft. Gordon, the impetus put on developing our cybersecurity industry by Governor Nathan Deal and economic development officials looks to be one that will pay major dividends, both for our safety and our economy, for decades to come.
