Peachtree City Mayor Vanessa Fleisch and members of the city council are pushing for a resolution that would allow city officials to sue citizens who defame them on social media. Critics are outraged, calling it a violation of the First Amendment and pointing out that if actual defamation is occurring there are already laws to stop it, and that censorship shouldn’t be the answer, nor should taxpayer-funded lawsuits against Facebook and Twitter naysayers. Carr joins LSU football fight
In the South, college football is religion – and now it’s politics too. Members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) are furious with LSU over its attempts to sign players already in the NFL to come back to college to play for the Tigers. On Wednesday, Attorney General Chris Carr, (presumably at the behest of some big names at UGA) urged the SEC to take “all measures available” against LSU. Thursday, the league heeded that advice, suing LSU Head Coach Lane Kiffin. The legal quagmire pitting the conference against itself has LSU SINKING…
