Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has been in office for 100 days. And Wednesday, he marked that milestone by launching a statewide tour, speaking with Georgians about the accomplishments he has already made in office.
As part of the tour, Kemp is participating in round table discussions with educators, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement officials across the state. During stops Wednesday in Macon and coastal Georgia, Kemp talked about the historic $3,000 pay increase for teachers, greater investment in mental health services for students and school security, innovative solutions for Georgia’s healthcare system, and new efforts to keep our communities safe.
“Together, we have accomplished a great deal during our first 100 days leading this state,” said Kemp. “By raising teacher pay by $3,000, funding more mental health services for students, investing in school security, and taking steps to keep our families safe, we are ensuring a brighter future for Georgia.
“Working with the General Assembly, we have allocated millions in relief efforts for Georgians still reeling from Hurricane Michael. Republicans and Democrats came together to overwhelmingly pass budgets that fund our priorities while keeping our state’s fiscal house in order.”
Kemp went to say, “We tackled tough issues – CON reform, human trafficking, and medical cannabis oil – and put Georgians ahead of politics and the status quo. We stood up for our values and protected life.
“By launching the Georgians First Commission, we will make Georgia the top state in the nation for small business. Job growth in our state is beating national trends and companies around the world have Georgia on their mind. We have a lot to celebrate after the first 100 days of my first term, but we are just getting started. Together, the next 100 days will build on these successes and keep Georgia moving in the right direction.”
During one stop today, Kemp announced that Plastic Express, a leader in the plastic resins industry, will expand operations with two new manufacturing facilities creating 166 new jobs and investing more than $172 million at the Port Logistics Center in Pooler.
Kemp joined company leadership including representatives from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Savannah Economic Development Authority, Georgia Ports Authority, and more to celebrate this announcement at the Port of Savannah.
Headquartered in Industry, California, Plastic Express has trucking terminals, warehouse facilities, transloading docks, and packaging plants across the country, including a bulk transload facility in Dalton. The company plans to be in the new facility by October 1, 2019.
