The Sylvania Visitor Information Center
Georgia has 11 visitor centers scattered across the state, welcoming more than 13 million travelers per year from the mountains of Ringgold to the beaches of St. Marys. But one center in particular sticks out – that in Sylvania near the South Carolina border.
The Sylvania Visitor’s Center is the oldest continuous running visitor’s center in the United States, first opening in 1963. Originally just a bathroom and parking lot, the center has become something of a landmark, attracting thousands of Georgians and out-of-staters who have been stopping by for generations.
Brittney Gray, the Director of Visitor Information Centers for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, sat down with our friends at Georgia CEO this week to talk about the Sylvania center and its role in the Georgia tourism landscape.
