Audrey Berland, a litigation attorney with 25 years of experience, this week became the fourth candidate to officially launch her campaign for the Georgia Court of Appeals seat being vacated by Judge Sara Doyle. Her name will appear on all May 19, 2020 primary ballots in the statewide non-partisan race along with other candidates who have announced for the seat.
“Georgia is my home and has been home to my family for generations,” Berland said in a media release. “I’ve advocated for clients on both sides of disputes and have seen litigation from a broad range of issues and perspectives. I will bring my range and depth of experience to the Court.”
Berland wants Georgia voters to know that she recognizes and welcomes the weight of responsibility that a seat on the Court of Appeals brings. “The trust of Georgia residents in the fairness and objectivity of our judicial system is essential. I pledge to treat all parties as equals under the law and with fairness and impartiality,” Berland said.
A graduate of Lakeside High School in DeKalb County, Audrey Berland earned a B.S. in Psychology cum laude from Tulane University and law degree from Case Western Reserve University. Berland is a past vice president and treasurer for the Atlanta chapter of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. And just this year she was recognized as a “Georgia Super Lawyer” based upon peer nomination, peer evaluation, and assessment of professional achievement.
The other candidates who have previously announced are former public defender and insurance defense counsel Tabitha Ponder Beckford; trial attorney Nicole Leet with the Gray, Rust, St. Amand Moffett and Brieske firm; and Kimberley Burroughs Debrow, president-elect of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
