Atlanta City Council members, backed by radicals energized by demonstrations against the police, were recently defeated on an 8 to 7 vote to shift $73 million from the police budget into a “special account” to facilitate “reimagining” department policies. But insiders now say that, on Monday, Councilwoman Jennifer Ide will again present an amendment to defund the city’s police. This comes at a time when police morale is at the lowest point in modern times after officers have been fired without due process after trying to control rioters and arrest criminal escapees.
