Supporters of Spaceport Camden got some very good news Monday when the Federal Aviation Administration approved issuance of a launch site operator license. Now Camden County can purchase the land and begin construction on the spaceport, located on some 12,000 acres in Kingsland, formerly used by industrial manufacturers Bayer CropScience and Union Carbide Corp. There are still hoops to jump through – county officials now have to court spaceflight companies capable of launching rockets into space, as well as secure final FAA approval that launches can take place – but with this step forward the possibility of rockets taking off over Georgia’s coast could be a reality as soon as 2023.
