Georgia continues to clean its voter lists during a legally required update during a non-election year. According to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Georgia will continue to conduct list maintenance throughout this year in preparation for the 2024 election cycle – which includes the 2024 presidential election.
Raffensperger reported that 82,077 voters have been identified as potentially moved out of state, and they are being mailed notices prompting them to cancel their registration if they have moved. If they are still Georgia residents living in the state, the notice allows them to confirm their address. If the voters do not respond to the notice in 40 days, they will be moved to Inactive status.
These records have been identified through Georgia’s membership in the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC).
“Clean voter lists, achieved in partnership with ERIC, adds to our efforts in making Georgia #1 for Election Integrity. We’re using a multi-pronged strategy to ensure our voter rolls are the cleanest and most accurate in the nation, and this list maintenance activity is another example of that,” said Raffensperger.
Since joining ERIC in 2019, Georgia has mailed 578,096 notices to voters who have potentially moved out of state, not including the most recent mailing of 82,077, according to Raffensperger. From those previous mailings, there have been 104,005 records that have been canceled, and another 305,110 registrations have been placed in Inactive status. Raffensperger stated that those 305,110 registrations will be canceled in 2025 unless they have voter activity between now and then.
“Without ERIC, Georgia would not have access to the most secure, reliable, and large-scale voter registration maintenance tool,” Raffensperger said.
The most recent mailing includes 82,077 voter records for individuals who have had activity at a voter registration or driver services office in another current or former ERIC-member state.
