A Lawrenceville family is unhappy after the woman accused of attacking them on their porch did not show up for arraignment this week, about 11 months after the alleged attack. The defendant, Aisha Ibrahim, was due in Gwinnett County court Monday for arraignment on five charges, including one felony. Instead, a relative appeared in court to say the defendant was hospitalized.

The story was first reported by World News Daily. According to the report, the Arno family was sitting outside on May 31, 2016, when Ibrahim rushed them. The defendant allegedly grabbed a U.S. flag from the family’s mailbox and attempted to hit Dami Arno and her 17-year-old daughter with the flag’s pole.

Dami Arno and two neighbors subdued the alleged attacker while the daughter called 911 for assistance. A son, 14-year-old Chuck Arno, rushed from the family’s home with a gun and held the attacker until police arrived.

Ibrahim, 31, is a described as a Somali refugee. She also used the name Amina Ali Ahra.

According to court records, the State Court ordered a mental evaluation on June 24, 2016. The judge then sealed the court records on Sept. 29 and a week later the case was transferred to Superior Court.

The family is upset that Ibrahim did not show for court and that they were never informed of her release on bond about two months ago.

Gwinnett officials did not seek a bench warrant for her, and that just made things worse for the family.

Dan Mayfield, a chief assistant district attorney, said in an email to InsiderAdvantage that because the accused in receiving medical care, the office decided against seeking the warrant.

“Aisha Ibrahim failed to report to court for her arraignment hearing,” Mayfield said in the email. “A relative announced that she was hospitalized so the court did not issue a bench warrant for her arrest. The arraignment was rescheduled to May 22.”

Ibrahim faces two counts of simple assault, two counts of simple battery and one count of giving false information.

Ibrahim’s attorney did not respond to an InsiderAdvantage request for comments.
