Researchers from Georgia Tech and Emory University have discovered a new way to detect organ transplant rejection – and it might gross you out. The team published a study in the science journal Nature Biomedical Engineering that uses injected nanoparticles to detect certain granzymes, a surefire detection method. If a rejection is detected, the patient’s urine will glow. A strange method to be sure, but a possibly life saving one should it replace the invasive core biopsies currently practiced.
