Sad news broke last evening on the Facebook page administered by Cobb County businessman Anthony-Scott Hobbs, owner of the Georgia Steeplechase which was scheduled to take place on Saturday April 6th. “It is with a heavy heart that the Georgia Steeplechase board of directors has announced that the … race meet has been cancelled,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately, due to competing with the Spring Break it has proven difficult this year to raise the $100,000 for the purse from the corporate sponsors,” he continued. “We consulted with the National Steeplechase Association (NSA) to see if there was a possibility to reschedule to another date this spring or fall but, unfortunately, they gave us no option.”

Hobbs says that refunds will be issued to everyone who has purchased tickets either by credit card or check.

This was to be the second year that the Steeplechase would be held after Hobbs and his wife Phoebe took over the longtime track near Rome and resurrected the race. Fans must now wait to see if the event can be scheduled in 2020.
