U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) and Governor Brian Kemp were among the dignitaries attending the announcement of a unique aviation partnership between Macon-Bibb County, Central Georgia Technical College and Robins Air Force Base. Also at the ceremony were Macon Mayor Robert Reichert, and Brigadier General John C. Kubinec, commander of Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex.

Officials believe this partnership will become a major economic driver in Middle Georgia. Through the partnership, Robins’ 402nd Commodities Maintenance Group will co-locate with Central Georgia Technical College educational training programs at the former Boeing manufacturing facility in Macon. This partnership would be a first-of-its kind, workplace-based education and training program.

“It’s a great day for Middle Georgia,” said Senator Perdue, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Robins Air Force Base is one of Georgia’s greatest assets, and today’s announcement demonstrates Middle Georgia’s commitment to fulfilling the needs of not just Robins Air Force Base, but the entire Air Force. Once approved, this partnership will allow Robins to bolster capacity, take on more work assignments, and grow the local workforce of trained aircraft technicians. Brigadier General Kubinec, Chairman Robbie Fountain, Mayor Reichert, Commissioner Matt Arthur, Dr. Ivan Allen, and the 21st Century Partnership have been stalwarts in this effort, and I appreciate their leadership to make this partnership a reality.”

Governor Kemp posted on social media that he was proud that Central Georgia Technical College was expanding its Aviation Maintenance and Aircraft Structural Technology programs.

“This isn’t just good news for workforce development, it’s even better news for Robins Air Force Base, which will benefit from well-equipped graduates of these programs,” said Gov. Kemp. “Thank you Central Georgia Tech for investing in our state!”

Officials believe this unique partnership will create a workforce pipeline, with students getting hands-on training at the same facility where important military aircraft maintenance is taking place, officials said.
