Peachtree City Mayor Vanessa Fleisch and members of the city council are pushing for a resolution that would allow city officials to sue citizens who defame them on social media. Critics are outraged, calling it a violation of the First Amendment and pointing out that if actual defamation is occurring there are already laws to stop it, and that censorship shouldn’t be the answer, nor should taxpayer-funded lawsuits against Facebook and Twitter naysayers.
