The last time members of the House Government Affairs Committee met to hear testimony on the state’s election process there was one glaring absence among those testifying — Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. This morning, Raffensperger and members are his team are scheduled to testify when the committee re-convenes.
According to a member of the committee, the following representatives from the Office of Secretary of State will join Raffensperger in testifying: Gabriel Sterling, Voting System Implementation Manager; Chris Harvey, Elections Division Director; and Ryan Germany, General Counsel.
During the December 10 hearing, Committee Chairman Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) announced, “We did invite the Secretary of State’s office to attend, but they declined,”
No vote or action was taken following the testimony at that meeting, but many left feeling that the issues and allegations should be looked into further.
“I think today’s hearings simply backed up much of the information I have been hearing — that most of the problems are associated with absentee ballots,” said Barry Fleming (R-Harlem) following the first hearing. “So for me, it makes sense to address those issues in the upcoming legislative session.”
House members did hear from President Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani — who also had appeared before members of a Georgia Senate sub-committee to talk about irregularities and what he says is blatant fraud that took place in the November 3rd election.
“Your people were cheated,” Giuliani told members of the House committee. “Anyone who cast a legal vote in this last election was cheated. This has to be vindicated. This goes beyond President Donald Trump, beyond Joe Biden, beyond your Governor. Legal voters were cheated. You cannot possibly certify Georgia’s elections results in good faith.”
Today’s 9 a.m meeting has been advertised as a virtual meeting that will be livestreamed.
Chairman Blackmon encouraged public comments or testimony for this meeting through the General Assembly website, and asked that any comments or questions be submitted in writing via email to GAFF@house.ga.gov.
