Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United is very popular in its home city, but the club is looking to expand its reach across the state and to build up the sport at a grassroots level. Team officials and players last week traveled to Brunswick, on the state’s coast, to mark the opening of the state’s first mini-pitch part of the club’s statewide GA 100 campaign. GA 100’s goal is to construct 100 mini-pitches in underserved communities leading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup to spread the game of soccer throughout the state. The matching grants, available via an application process to local non-profits and city governments, can be as much as $75,000, giving children more options for healthy activities.
