Riding in the wake of the electric car boom is an entire industry of related manufacturers.  One such example is putting down roots in Bulloch County in south Georgia, where it it making the single largest economic development investment in the county’s long history.  Aspen Aerogels, based in Massachusetts, plans to spend more than $325 million on a 500,000 square-foot facility that will bring more than 250 advanced manufacturing jobs to the Statesboro area.  The facility will produce a special aerogel thermal insulating material, required in the construction of electric car batteries to prevent and/or contain potential vehicle fires.  Aspen pointed to the county’s proximity to the Port of Savannah and a strong workforce buoyed by Georgia Southern University as reasons for the site selection.
