Looking for a way to expand the sport of football to Georgia girls, the Atlanta Falcons and the Arthur M. Blank Foundation in 2018 partnered with Gwinnett County Schools to fund the first-ever girls’ high school flag football league in Georgia. That season all 19 Gwinnett schools participated in the league, and the next season the league expanded to 52 schools across the state with more than 800 athlete participants, and the sport was recognized as an officially sanctioned sport by the GHSA. Now the Falcons are working to expand the sport’s reach, pledging to fund flag football programs at every Bibb County high school. The move will offer a new athletic endeavor for girls in Middle Georgia, helping to expand an already fast-growing sport that has taken off over the past four years.
