Georgia is less than a week away from Election Day 2022, and voters continue to turn out in record numbers. The last day to vote early for the November 8 election is today,  November 4, and more than 1.9 million Georgians have already cast ballots early or by absentee in this year’s general election – breaking midterm turnout records.

According to Greater Georgia, the state’s conservative voter registration and mobilization group, early voting turnout is up by about 36 percent compared to 2018. An analysis of the early voting numbers shows that in total, 1,937,462 voters have cast their ballots so far in this year’s general election – including 1,751,307 early in person voters and 186,155 absentee voters. At this time in 2018, a total 1,426,079 voters had cast their ballots in total.

If you have requested an absentee ballot, you must return it to a monitored absentee ballot drop box by Election Day or make sure it’s postmarked and in the mail by Election Day.

The analysis also shows that of the 339,000 disenfranchised voters who voted in 2020 but not in the January 2021 runoff, 78,466 have so far come back out to vote. Also, 28,453 voters so far are first-time voters.

While still the majority, Greater Georgia reports that women are voting at a slightly lower rate than they did in 2018. So far, 44.8 percent of voters are male, and 55.2 percent are female, compared to 2018 when 44 percent of voters were male, and 56 percent were female.

Compared to 2018, the participation rate of men increased by 41 percent and the participation rate of women increased by 36 percent.

The analysis goes on to show that white voters make up a slightly smaller share of the vote than they did in 2018 – while the Black vote share remains unchanged, and the Asian and Hispanic vote shares have grown. So far, 63.2 percent of voters are White, 30.9 percent are Black, 2.3 percent are Asian, and 2 percent are Hispanic. In 2018, 64.3 percent of voters were White, 31 percent were Black, 1.9 percent were Asian, and 1.8 percent were Hispanic.

Compared to 2018, the participation rate of White voters has increased by 36 percent, Black by 38 percent, Asian by 69 percent, and Hispanic by 54 percent.
