The Georgia Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled that early voting for the U.S. Senate runoff between Herschel Walker and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock can proceed this coming Saturday, nullifying an appeal from Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger that argued that state law prohibited Saturday voting the day after a state holiday.
The Court found that the law only applied to primary and general elections, while runoffs were explicitly not mentioned. That means that counties are free – if they wish – to open up early voting as soon as this Saturday ahead of the mandatory early voting week which will begin statewide next Monday.
Already a dozen or so counties have said they will open up early voting on Saturday and Sunday, and since the ruling that list has continued to grow. To see if your county is one of those that will be open starting Saturday, click HERE and select your county from the dropdown menu.
If you’re out of town over the weekend, not to worry! Early voting is open across the state starting next Monday, and you can find your county’s early voting location(s) HERE. You also still have time to fill out an absentee ballot, which you can request HERE. Note that you must fill out that application and send it in by next Monday, November 28th, in order to receive your absentee ballot in time. If you do decide to vote absentee, you must return your ballot by Tuesday, December 6th, the official day of the runoff. You can track the status of your absentee ballot HERE.
So no excuses, Georgians have at their fingertips extra early voting, early voting, absentee voting, and of course regular old election day voting all at their disposal for this pivotal U.S. Senate runoff.
