With or without Gov. Brian Kemp, Columbus, Georgia will be the center of the Republican universe next weekend when the state GOP convention comes to town.  While Kemp and some other major state officials are snubbing the event, national GOP figures are flocking to the western Georgia city, chief among them former President Donald Trump – the party’s current frontrunner for 2024.  Also scheduled to speak are former VP Mike Pence, weighing his own presidential bid, as well as former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and business executive Vivek Ramaswamy, both GOP primary contenders.  The convention will also bring thousands of delegates and other visitors to Columbus, filling hotels, restaurants and the Columbus Convention and Trade Center as the city briefly becomes the center of the political world.
