Local officials in Dougherty County, in southwest Georgia, took a hands-on approach to helping the youth in their community when many participated in the annual Ties That Bind event hosted at Albany State University’s West Campus.  Leaders including Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul, former Albany Mayor Willie Adams, Commission Chairman Lorenzo Heard, three county commissioners and a slew of law enforcement officers all took part in the event, which helps provide mentoring for young men who lack strong male role models in their lives.  Heard said he hoped the event would help develop the next generation of southwest Georgians and that it gave him hope for the future for the youth of that corner of the state.
