Henry Co. Commission Chair Carlotta Harrell
As a public servant, connecting with the communities that I represent has always been a core value. I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to listen to their needs and advocate on their behalf—and I believe I am uniquely qualified to do so. Outside of serving as Chair of the Henry County Board of Commissioners, I spent several years consulting with government entities and agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations around some of the most important topics, from workforce development and senior housing to small business initiatives.
When I see a public-private partnership working to deliver value and meet the needs of my constituents, I like to promote it. An example of this is Medicare Advantage, which plays a critical role in the lives of our senior population. This program is a vital support system for many of our community’s most vulnerable members, providing them with access to essential health care services that are both high-quality and affordable. Medicare Advantage goes above and beyond—providing truly comprehensive coverage. It takes a wholistic approach to care, offering integrated vision, dental, and hearing and prescription drug coverage as well as other supplemental benefits that contribute to seniors’ independence and overall wellbeing, including transportation services and wellness programs.
The program also stands out because of its emphasis on preventative care, which is a cornerstone in maintaining health for our older constituents. By offering routine screenings, vaccines, and check-ups, seniors can proactively address their health issues before they escalate into more serious conditions. Plus, Medicare Advantage’s coordinated care model allows providers to stay in constant communication and up to date on treatment plans. With both a preventative and coordinated approach to care, this program helps improve the quality of life for our seniors. Additionally, the low monthly premiums and capped out-of-pocket expenses highlight the peace of mind it provides to seniors and their families and caregivers.
As our population ages, the demand for comprehensive health care coverage will only grow. It’s crucial that we maintain the stability of benefits, coverage, and costs seniors currently enjoy under Medicare Advantage. With so much on the line, I urge our leaders in Washington to recognize the valuable role Medicare Advantage plays in the lives of over 33 million Americans, including over 1 million Georgians. I encourage them to work together to ensure it is fully funded and remains an effective and affordable health care option for all those who depend on it.
