If you’re in the Athens area this weekend you have the chance to get a closer look at the brightest comet to flash through Georgia’s sky in nearly 30 years. The Tsuchinshan-Atlas comet was discovered just last year, and astronomers say its brightness will rival 1996’s Hale-Bopp comet. The Athens Astronomy Club and Sandy Creek Park are hosting a comet watch from 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the park on Bob Holman Road, which will include powerful telescopes which will also allow visitors to get a look at Saturn and the moon. If you’re looking for Tsuchinshan-Atlas from wherever you are in Georgia – look to the western horizon – it will appear to the right of Venus.
