Back in 2017 Maconite Bryan Nichols had the idea to put together a Christmas light display in downtown Macon as a way to draw in visitors and help fuel the district’s revitalization during the holiday season. Fast forward eight years and what once was a labor of love has turned into one of the largest Christmas light displays in the Southeast, featuring more than one million lights covering 5.5 city blocks, and a nightly show choreographed to music from the Macon Pops. The Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza is totally free to the public and includes shows nightly through all of December up until January 5th, and is expected to draw in hundreds of thousands of visitors, a massive boon to local restaurants and retailers.
