Another data center has been proposed for Coweta County, south of Atlanta, and it’s accompanied by some jaw-dropping numbers. “Project Sail” would be a 13-building data center campus that would in total cover more than 4.9 million square feet. Upon completion in mid-2030 the project will be worth a whopping $17 billion, and according to Atlas Development, the company behind the project, would generate $1.6 billion in annual tax revenues for the county, (some observers have said that number is too big to be true). The hi-tech project, near Newnan, would serve as a massive server farm powering the internet and cloud services, including artificial intelligence. It would also put more strain on the state’s power grid as state officials and Georgia Power executives scramble to make sure the grid can sustain the wave of data centers constructed in recent years.
