Chris Riley, the one-time chief of staff to former Gov. Nathan Deal, today will be named as the temporary chief of staff to Georgia House of Representatives Speaker Jon Burns. As reaction pours in, veteran lobbyist Trip Martin with GeorgiaLink says, “I understand this is an interim opportunity for Chris as Terry England, the speaker’s current chief of staff, continues his recovery from a serious farm accident. Chris Riley is a great pick by the speaker and he probably knows the state government better than anyone in Georgia. When you discuss an issue with him you can expect a very clear and direct response. Not much wasted time.”

Brian Robinson served as a top Deal aide who worked with Riley during the governor’s tenure. He says, “The number of people who can air drop into that job and instantly have the trust of the leadership, legislators and the governor’s office — while also possessing an encyclopedic knowledge of the state budget and legislative process– is probably one. And it’s Chris Riley. Virtually everyone knows him, and he knows everyone.”
