Georgia’s world famous Vidalia onions are just about set to hit store shelves, as the Vidalia Onion Committee and state Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper officially announced the 2025 pack date – April 15th. Per the “Vidalia Onion Act of 1986,” Vidalia onions are only grown within a strict, 20 county production area that spans much of South Georgia. The state’s official vegetable, Vidalia onions are renowned for their sweet, crisp taste that is derived from the low amount of sulfur in the soil in which they are grown. Each year Georgia farmers ship out 200 million pounds of Vidalia onions across the country, which means they’re gearing up for another busy – and tasty – onion season.
