U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., told a decidedly left-wing Cobb County town hall audience last week that President Donald Trump’s “actions” justify removal from office, even as various polls show the president remains popular in the state the senator represents.
The exchange took place during a tense back-and-forth with a questioner who demanded that the Democrat do more to remove Trump from office. The women began yelling against what she called “authoritative rule” and demanded action: “I will not live in an authoritative country, and neither will any of these people,” she shouted. “He needs to be impeached. I will not live like this… Do something more.”
But rather than tone down his answer or temper expectations, Ossoff took it to the extreme. “There is no doubt that this president’s conduct has already exceeded any prior standard for impeachment by the United States House of Representatives,” he said. “There is no question that that rises to the level of an impeachable offense.”
Ossoff offered no specific evidence to support his accusations. And even some Democrat attendees recognized that any impeachment process would have to start in the U.S. House of Representatives, and since it is controlled by a Republican majority any impeachment bill would quickly die.
Georgia Republican Party Chairman Josh McKoon responded that “Senator Ossoff says the quiet part out loud and announces he supports overturning the result of the 2024 election! Time for California’s third senator to be fired.”
Ossoff is running for re-election next year.
