“A great win” is announced by Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul, now that the special master in its water rate lawsuit against the city of Atlanta “ruled 100 percent” in favor of his city. The dispute, which has dragged on for over 20 years, is whether Atlanta Water can charge Sandy Springs residents a surcharge for the water it supplies to it– and the court found it is cheaper to provide water to Sandy Springs than to virtually any other customers. Thus, the current surcharge is not justified, and Atlanta’s neighboring city will no longer be ripped off. “We expect a final order to be issued by the Superior Court very soon which will open negotiations with Atlanta over the proper rates to charge Sandy Springs residents. We expect the ruling should reduce our water rates by around 21-23 percent,” Paul says. RISING….
