The U.S. Senate this week confirmed Susan Monarez as the new director of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  It’s been a tumultuous year for the CDC, which has faced spending cuts from the Trump Administration and was forced to lay off hundreds of employees.  But there is hope that Monarez, a longtime government researcher who’s served under four presidents of varying political leanings, can steer the ship and stabilize the important agency.  RISING…
