U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-GA, wasn’t just upset by “anti-American” comments by Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-IL, he took action. Carter introduced a resolution to the House condemning her for her remarks. The resolution states that elected officials are expected to serve the American people, not foreign governments, and that comments like hers call into question a member’s ability to fulfill their oath of office.
Ramirez, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, recently said that she is “a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.”
“Every Member of Congress swears an oath of allegiance to our country and to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. For a sitting member of Congress to openly prioritize another nation over America is unacceptable and a betrayal of the trust her constituents have placed in her,” said Carter. “This resolution affirms the obvious: Members of Congress must put America First.”
According to reports, Ramirez recently attended the second annual Panamerican Congress. The event was organized by Progressive International, a radical-left non-governmental organization that mobilizes and supports activists around the world.
According to Carter, Ramirez spoke at the event where she stated, “I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.” Republicans have expressed outrage over this comment.
Carter issued a statement along with the announcement of his new resolution, where he called Ramirez’s comment ‘unacceptable’ and a ‘betrayal.’
He also reaffirmed this on X, stating, “Members of Congress must put AMERICA FIRST. (Rep. Delia Ramirez) needs to be held accountable for betraying public trust by prioritizing her allegiance to a foreign nation.”
Carter wasn’t the only one speaking out. White House spokesperson Liz Huston reportedly called it ‘despicable’ and stated that it all but confirms some lawmakers’ commitments to putting America last. Another report said Rep. Andy Ogles, R-TN, went further and stated on X, “Denaturalize, deport, and kicked her off Homeland Committee. We know where her allegiances lie.”
