International Paper has been a fixture in Savannah for nearly a century, with four manufacturing facilities in the area, including its main mill on the Savannah River that’s operated since 1936.  The Memphis-based company is shuttering its Georgia plants in an effort to reduce its containerboard (think cardboard boxes) capacity and will lay off some 1,100 workers.  It will also impact the state’s forestry industry which supplied the mills with pine trees.  SINKING…
