Raffensperger enters stormy GOP political waters

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger joined the 2026 Republican primary race for governor yesterday with promises ranging from getting more jobs to cutting taxes. But he doesn’t talk much about election integrity, and his primary opponents— especially Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and perhaps Attorney General Chris Carr-- are gearing up to slam him on his record in this policy area.  

Remember that in 2020 Raffensperger angered President Donald Trump by contradicting his claim that Georgia’s presidential general election results were inaccurate. So in the unfolding campaign, the Trump-backed Jones – and the president himself— along with allied political action committees will probably criticize Raffensperger routinely.
