Central Atlanta Progress (CAP), a chamber of commerce of sorts for Downtown Atlanta focused on community development in the area, has released their annual report highlighting the growth happening in the most historic part of the city. Often overlooked, the birthplace of Atlanta has seen more change than any other part of the city – sometimes not for the good. The closing of Rich’s, the moving of the Atlanta newspaper offices, the decline of Underground Atlanta, among others, contributed to a bit of a low period for a couple decades there. But the area is experiencing an undoubtable renewal.

The report from CAP looks at workforce and residential growth in the area, and these factors contributing to rising real estate investment in the area. Tremendous growth at Georgia State University has helped to fuel some of the growth, along with infrastructure investment and an influx of small businesses that is increasing foot traffic east of Ted Turner Drive, where for decades most of the traffic was west of this street, on the side of the old CNN Center, State Farm Arena and Georgia Aquarium.
