The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced Thursday the addition of three new places to the National Register of Historic Places, highlighting the history and diversity of Georgia’s history.
The listings are in south and central Georgia, in Dougherty, McDuffie and Brooks counties. Listings are eligible for nomination through the DCA’s Historic Preservation Division’s (HPD) mission to promote the preservation of and use of historic for a better Georgia. Listing can include buildings, sites, structures, objects, and districts that are significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and culture. A listing does not prohibit or restrict the use or ownership of a private property but it can add value and help to protect the historic nature of the property though that added value. If the property is altered significantly from its historic nature, that value would go away.
