A much-anticipated plan to eliminate the state’s income tax was released Wednesday during the final meeting of a Senate Special Committee. While the plan would still require legislative approval, the committee’s recommendation passed by a 6-3 vote among party lines.

“This is not a matter of if Georgia will eliminate the income tax, but when,” said state Sen. Blake Tillery, R-Vidalia, Senate Appropriations Chair and chair of the committee. “Citizens are screaming for elected officials to realize that affordability is their number one issue. I hear them. This plan takes everyone's income tax to zero, with hardworking Georgians first in line.”
