A year on from the Los Angeles wildfires, with wide areas burned and destroyed, rebuilding is taker longer than many had anticipated. A new study from the Home Depot Foundation and Morning Consult highlights the issue that even if funding, and the will, to rebuild is there, the labor and manpower required for rebuilding can often be the biggest impediment. According to the survey in the research, nearly 60 percent of Americans are skeptical of their community’s ability to rebuild quickly. Professional contractors who have worked on disaster recovery projects point to qualified help as their greatest need in performing the work.
“We are seeing a clear trend where disaster-impacted communities are experiencing delays in long-term recovery and the rebuilding process, with the lack of available labor being one of the primary issues," said Erin Izen, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. "Our Path to Pro program will help ensure the workforce is there to meet the demand when a community is rebuilding what they’ve lost.”
