Tax reform is one of the hottest issues at the State Capitol as the 2026 legislative session gets into full swing. Late last week, a priority tax bill for the Georgia Senate began making its way through the process when the Senate Committee on Finance passed SB 382, sponsored by Sen. Chuck Hufstetler, R–Rome.

This measure would mandate the statewide base-year homestead exemption for all local governments and streamline the process for calling a referendum on special district option sales and use tax.
